Book ReviewWhen we are reading an autobiography of someone whom we had seen and observed so closely through his various interactions, addresses and while finding those anecdotes in the book, we feel so connected with pleathora of memories went through every page. Yes this is all about Dr JJ irani. His Commitment to Tata steel had been of unparalleled level, despite having worked as number 2 of another legendary MD, Mr Russi Modi, he created his own unique position as A Technocrat who was given a freehand to take a call on any technology upgradation or modernization of Tata Steel or Tisco' steel works. He was man of Steel. An ardent admirer of JRD and Ratan Tata, always stood for ethos of Tata, tough one with his own belief, aspirational plan for Tata Steel. I joined TATA Steel in 1990 and left in 2006, so saw the acrimonious corporate strife between late Rusdi Modi against Tata, we had experienced Dr JJI' stand then his elevation as MD Tata steel and the way he brought huge transformation through modernization of various steel manufacturing processes. Every stakeholders had a huge respect for his leadership, union or govt agencies and he had seen the worst leadership of Bihar in the form of Lalu Yadav as CM but had always made the best out of the worst as his focus was to get the best deal for jamshedpur & Tata Steel. He was a tough guy, but kind at heart. Brought huge changes in people practices too by engaging McKinsey and Eicher for restructuring processes, popularly known as Performance ethics program, of course he talked about restructuring but missed out on name that was PEP. I had an opportunity to attend a few steering committee meetings of PEP as part of the task force, under the chairmanship of Dr JJI, he used to drive it with an iron hand, no ifs and buts once a decision was made, no going back! Lesson for leadership, transformational change will always be top driven. Org is reaping benefits of 2000' restructuring as stated in forward too as penned by present MD as he was there in 100+ selected top future leaders. I enjoyed every page as I was living through those days. As we generally state, Tata steel has always been the extended family. Pulsating read, I must Say! #leadership #Tatasteel Zubin Irani NK Sharan

What we can achieve together is immensely greater than what we can achieve as individual or in isolation. What a great advise by Bharat’s most successful Businessman, Highest job creator and tax payer and contributing maximum in building nation by “collective udyam” and Great vision. I found many bright and capable intellectuals who dream and believe in nation building , they present their experience and expertise and blue print or roadmap quite loud and vocal to the world around them. They get listening ears , but they lack reliable plan , team and collaborative mindset to excute their noble mission or vision .Many times they are adamant and rigid to collaborate and not flexible enough to move in their ideologies even an inch here and there . They live with the false notion of changing the world with one magic wand they carry in their dream world. Life in not fairy tale , it’s harsh realty and everyone here is inter dependent on each other. This is the great message to youth by visionary leader , that develop collaborative mind set , accept others , respect others and channelise your energies to make it bigger and better , not solo play but a collective team work is only possible way to dream big and achieve big too !!!! Dream alone has no value in the market. Solo players can be good consultant , writer , author or preachers … but they also need clients and folllwers to make their dreams viable … Building institution is a skill that need to be scaled up with formal and informal training to build a rock solid foundation of #VikasitBharat in next 25 years of Amrutkal to reap the benefits for next 1000 years.Humans are mortals Institutions are immortal Values are eternal

Very well said. it is our duty to foster entrepreneurship in the young, and making mistakes is a part of the deal. If we are not willing to take the risk of making mistakes, then the organisation's growth will stop... that's the other choice. Be wise to make the choice, as your organisation's future depends on your choice.
