Azeroth Auto Pilot: World of Warcraft (WoW) Addon Guide [Spotlight] - Arcane Intellect (1)

Paid leveling addons have been a part of World of Warcraft for years now. I remember seeing advertisements for Zygor years ago and thinking the features it offered were really cool. Unfortunately, I am cheap and didn’t feel good about paying for an addon. That is why I was so happy when I stumbled across free alternatives to paid guides. In a previous article, I talked about the one I use for TBC, which is called WoW-Pro Guides. In this one, I want to walk you through my favorite guide addon for retail — Azeroth Auto Pilot.

Let’s take a quick look at how the addon works, how to install it, and some settings you can change to get the addon working just how you like.

If you want to see how this addon stacks up against others, check out my article, where I compare leveling times for Azeroth Auto Pilot and the paid version of Zygor, or watch this video.

How does the Azeroth Auto Pilot addon work?

Azeroth Auto Pilot is pretty straightforward. It will add a list of quests and objectives to complete and provide an arrow to direct you through the process.

As you complete the quests, the list will update and move you to the next objective.

What is even better is that you don’t have to use the addon on a new character. Instead, when you install the addon, it will detect which quests you have already completed so you can pick up where you are at.

In the rest of this guide, I will show you how to select different guides and change the settings for Azeroth Auto Pilot. But, first, let’s talk briefly about how to install the addon.

How to install Azeroth Auto Pilot

You can install AAP through an addon manager or by manually placing it into your addon folder. The guides are included as part of the core addon, so you shouldn’t install any other dependencies.

If you aren’t sure how to install addons, I created an addon installation guide you can check out when you are done with this article.

How to use the Azeroth Auto Pilot addon

Selecting a Guide

Once you have finished installing the addon, you can open or reload your game. The first thing you will notice is a window asking you to select a route.

If you choose the “Speed Run” option, the addon will provide a walkthrough of the Warlords of Draenor (WoD) expansion storyline. This is the default option because Warlords of Draenor has many treasures that you can collect while questing to gain additional experience.

Thanks to these treasures and the simple quests in WoD, you should be able to get from level 10 to 50 in about 12-14 hours with Azeroth Auto Pilot. I personally used the addon to level a new druid, and it took me a little over 13 hours to reach level 50.

If you want a different guide to level 50, you can select a custom path. For example, when I opened this option on a Horde character, I could choose quest chains on Kalimdor or in the Legion area. To select a custom path, you simply need to left-click and drag the guide you want to follow to the top of the custom path column in this window.

After dropping the new zone guide in the list, you will notice that your guide steps have been updated!

Following the Guide

With a guide selected, you will see a “Zone” window on your UI. You can move this window to a better spot by left-clicking and holding to drag it.

From there, the steps you have completed will be highlighted in green, while those you still need to finish are shown in red. The current step you are on has a double arrow (>>) pointing to it.

You will also see another smaller box that shows your next step and an arrow pointing you toward that objective. Both of these can be easily moved to a better location through the same click-and-drag method.

Adjusting Addon Settings

If you want to take things a step further, you can adjust several features in AAP. You can access these settings by typing /aap into your chat box.

This will open a window for adjusting options related to quests, arrows, or other general options.

The quest options will allow you to automate the acceptance and turn-in of quests. You can also set the addon to automatically pick the highest ilvl gear reward for quests to speed things up. By default, automatic acceptance and turn-in of quests are enabled.

The arrow options allow you to lock the arrow in place, adjust the update frequency of the yard estimates, and change the arrow’s scale.

Finally, you can change a few other general options. Some of the changes you can make here are to enable cutscene skips, automatic gray item selling, automatic repair, and a few different settings.

Final Thoughts and Important Links

Azeroth Auto Pilot is an excellent addon for walking you through the process of leveling with quests. I usually level my main character without the addon and then use AAP to bring alts up to speed quickly. Using the addon, I have found the routes to be efficient, and easy-to-follow, and great to use while listening to music or watching TV. If you are looking for a pain-free guide to level a character, I would highly recommend Azeroth Auto Pilot!
